Winter is right around the corner, and as temperatures drop energy bills usually rise. Fall is the perfect season to focus on finding ways to save energy in your home.

The United States uses nearly a million dollars worth of energy each minute, 24-hours-a-day, every day of the year.

Don’t let the term ‘audit’ scare you. Unlike audits from the IRS, energy audits are performed to save you money.

Home energy audits are a process where trained professionals come into a home and use state-of-the-art technology to assess the areas where the home might be losing energy.

  1. A consultant sits down with the homeowners to gather information about lifestyle, budget and methods of energy used in the home.
  2. Next, the professionals select an exterior doorframe to install a blower door. This is essentially a giant fan that magnifies the natural airflow in the home. This helps determine where air is escaping from the home. It also pinpoints where pests like dust, allergens, moisture and unwanted critters or bugs may be getting in the home.
  3. Finally, infrared technology is used to paint a picture of exactly where the home is underperforming.
  4. The process is concluded with the preparation of an energy audit report, complete with suggestions for improvements.
