We’re quickly approaching the warmest few weeks of the year. If you’re like most of us, you’ve spent your summer poolside and gathering with family and friends for afternoon barbeques. Even though summer is hitting the home stretch, there’s still plenty of time to master the grill.
Art of Grilling
It’s never too late to learn how to grill the perfect cut of meat. Jason Capps, chef and owner of Bella Sera, offers these grilling tips.
- A steak should only be turned once. When lines from the cooking grate appear on the meat and turn black it is time to turn the food. A thicker cut, if more than 1 ½ inches thick, may need to be turned three times to get it cooked through the center.
- Use oil or cooking spray on grates when grilling low fat meats and other foods.
- Add seasoning or marinade at least one hour before grilling to let the flavor sink in.
