Bountiful Style

Dining By Design returns to Columbus with tempting tablescapes full of inspiration

Originally appearing in Housetrends, Columbus

DIFFA’s 12th National Tour of Dining By Design proved once again, that Columbus is a city full of incredible and innovative design talents. The eclectic worlds of interior design, architecture, fashion and art came together to create stunning, one-of-a-kind dining installations.

DIFFA’s (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) fundraising efforts, strengthened by partnerships throughout the country has been able to utilize their resources and raise over $38 million for hundreds of AIDS service organizations.

“I think the event was great,” says Gary Bias, CEO/executive producer, EventCo Productions. “Especially with the economy, we’re living in a totally different world and totally different financial arena, but we had great attendance in Columbus, great media, and it was very well received.”

As you flip through the next few pages you’ll find a true variety of design styles. Modern and classic, high-tech and low-tech, glamorous and simple. But all of the tables showcase attention to detail and true talent. Enjoy!

TIP - Add a little glitz to a table with crystals and glitter and then cover with a piece of glass so guests can keep the glam where it belongs and not on their plate.

Little details such as the Edison light bulb fixtures and bowls of apples really bring a warm feeling to this table. The light bulbs give off an enchanting glow, while the apples not only bring a pop of color, but a wonderful aroma to the space.

TIP - Sometimes flowers can make a table. Try incorporating bold flower arrangements into a simple table design for that “wow” factor.

Advanced Drainage Systems
Designed by Jason Wu and Giancarlo Valle

Warm tones and unexpected materials work together to make this a beautiful table. You may not be eating off of paper plates, but paper chairs maybe. The side chairs at this table were made from cardboard—talk about a green idea!

Designed by EventCo, Gary Bias

TIP -  If you know your dinner guests will be on the younger side have something to keep them entertained on the table. Crayons and a coloring book make great take-home favors for the little ones.

With several installations paying tribute to a past age, this table has new age taken care of. In a world of Facebook, YouTube and Skype, the table certainly puts social media on the menu. Diners are hooked up and able to search websites as well as talk to their neighbors thanks to webcams.

Reborn in the USA
Sponsored and designed by Housetrends and American Furnishings

A true salute to the American ingenuity and the mothers and fathers of invention, this dining space elegantly captures a more simple time. The Americana feel of the space is enhanced by mixing textures of wood, glass and metal together in perfect harmony. Handmade place settings and a warm glow makes it very easy to picture this setup in your own home.
