Artful kitchen remodel invites the outdoors in with a pleasing arrangement

What was once a closet has now been transformed into a home bar, complete with a wine rack, a small refrigerator and plenty of storage space.

Even Lucy the dog enjoys the furniture in this recently remodeled home, with her favorite piece being a comfy chair by the fireplace.

By opening up their kitchen design, these homeowners now have access to large windows which show off a breath-taking golf coarse view.

By removing a wall between the former galley-style kitchen design and dining space, this couple gained an open floor plan that allows the two spaces—and those people in them—to connect.

With the iron-topped, cable-rail banister replacing the floor-to-ceiling drywall of the stairway enclosure, considerable light is brought into the space where some of the artist’s wall art and other art work is on display.

Matching the chairs at the nearby dining table, bar stools at the kitchen island provide seating for three.

The apertures and arms of twin chandeliers were wrapped with rope twine to lend a casual motif to these elegant fixtures that help define the family’s main gathering spot.

This newly designed fireplace wall reflects the homeowners' artistic style. A ripped, 5-inch-deep slab of old barn wood not only provides a slim silhouette as a mantle shelf, but its organic edge is a nod to the outdoors.

High gloss wood planking covers the kitchen ceiling as well as the great room’s fireplace wall nearby. Glass-front cabinets add a little interest to the otherwise smooth design.
