A culinary getaway

Kitchen cabinets contribute to a neutral color scheme
This kitchen features a neutral color palette thanks to light gray cabinets and dark gray lava stone perimeter countertops

Kitchen cabinets contribute to a neutral color scheme

Homeworks owners Marilyn and Ramon Perez wanted to build a home with character that fit in with the neighborhood and the Davis Islands style. They wound up creating the “Z” house, a 2,665-square-foot home with a lime green exterior and a soothing interior.

The kitchen of this home is the anchor of the large space that consists of the kitchen, dining space and living room. “We get a lot of people asking for white cabinets but we wanted to do something different. We don’t want to do the same thing too many times; we try to keep it fresh,” Marilyn says. To accomplish that while still keeping the feel of the space light, the cabinets are painted with a soft gray/green color called Useful Gray by Sherwin-Williams. They chose subway tile with beveled edges for the backsplash. This tile gives an extra sense of depth to the space and contrasts nicely with the dark gray, lava stone countertops.

Chandelier adds a unique touch to a dining area

“This is more of an urban house in many ways,” Marilyn says. Touches of the urban industrial look show up in the metal finishes of the fixtures, the copper sink and accessories used throughout the home. “It is all designer done. Every detail is hand picked because we know our client is someone who is designer driven.”

Kitchen island separates two spaces

A large center island topped with pristine white marble serves double duty for both cooking and dining as well as providing a visual separation of the kitchen from the rest of the living space. The living room features large sliding doors to enhance the indoor-outdoor feel, and a cozy fireplace. The comfortable dining area completes the space.
