Master bedroom design gets a light touch

Master bedroom gets custom accessories
The matching bedside tables in this master bedroom are Biscayne pieces that were customized with inset, antiqued mirror panels.

This Avila home had good structural bones but the interior was dated and needed refreshing, particularly in places like the living room and master bedroom design. Greg and Yvonne Mixon, who were new to Tampa, were also looking for a new look. “Our old house was a heavy Mediterranean style, which is what we wanted at that time.  With this house we were looking for a fresh, new, young look to reflect our new life,” Yvonne explains. Working with Dee Marksberry of Gage-Martin Interiors, they accomplished just that.

Bedroom design is all about cool colors and soothing vibes

The master bedroom is a cool serene space with soft blue linen wallpaper and high ceilings. The bedding is simple and unfussy. Beautifully made Karen Lockwood drapery accents the windows.

While the family was gone on a 100-day trip around the world, Dee and her team pulled photos of the family’s adventures from their blog and had them framed and hung on the stair walls. Not only did the Mixons come home to a fully transformed home, but they had a photo gallery of memories of their adventures to look at every day.

“When we returned, Dee and Jen (Marksberry, co-owner of Gage-Martin Interiors) had an ‘unveiling’,” Yvonne laughs. “Kind of like on those TV shows. We walked into the house and literally fell to our knees! It was such a transformation.”
