“Coastal Modern” is how Marilyn Perez, design director and co-owner of Homeworks Builders, describes their new 3,005-square-foot, Parade of Homes house facing the channel on Davis Islands. With nearly 3,000 square feet of additional, non-air conditioned space to work with, this four bedroom, three and a half bath home feels much bigger.
The clean, horizontal lines and crisp angles establish a modern sensibility with a touch of the Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie style thrown in for measure. ”We wanted a strong sense of modern and contemporary but not a crazy, jet set modern that would put people off,” says architect David Balber. ”A lot of thought was put into how to keep it modern yet still feel cozy and warm.”
The kitchen is an open floor plan, which blends seamlessly into the dining area and great room to form one large, contiguous space.
Airy and light with a peaceful, calm aura are the words to describe this area. Elegant accents, such as the kitchen backsplash comprised of pearlescent white glass tiles and the white horizontal planks lining the wall in the great room, are just a few of the eye-catching features. Retractable ten-foot Nana doors allow for the entire wall facing the channel to disappear, creating the ultimate viewing space for the annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival.
The wood countertop gives off a clean, scrubbed look, fitting in with the overall white decor of the house. Meanwhile, the wide plank, oiled, Siberian white oak floors used throughout the home create a harmonious backdrop for the home’s furnishings and artwork, creating a great atmosphere for casual cocktail parties or just a night in with family and friends.
