Bathroom design ideas go for the gold

Soaking tub gets a view-and privacy
A natural grass shade provides privacy for the soaking tub in this bathroom.

It wasn’t love at first sight for this Cleveland homeowner, but the interior designer in her told her to go for it and transform the formal home into an open, airy place where the family will love to gather. And that just what Wendy Berry did. The whole home was updated with modern touches here and there, but it is the bathroom design ideas that Berry used that truly capture one’s eye.

Soaking tub gets a view-and privacy

Once you enter the master bath, the small details ensure the pedestal free-standing tub is the focal point of the room. The recessed windows, covered by a natural grass shade for privacy, are flanked by substantial his and hers vanities in white. Combined with placement of the crown molding, shadows cast from the multitude of vanity lights create a vertical space that crowns the Vintage soaking tub by Kohler. Berry picked out the dramatic piece and the floor-mounted faucet with hand spray to fill it while exploring Welker-McKee’s 7,000-square-foot showroom in Cleveland. She was drawn to “luxury plumbing that provides an experience for her family, not just utility,” says Showroom Manager Veronica Money. “There’s a sense of emotion evoked when you lay your eyes on the perfect piece for which you’ve been searching.   That ‘ah-ha’ moment cannot be duplicated online.”

Shower tile takes a lesson from the bathroom floor

Shades of gold and white throughout the master bathroom lend a sense of pampered luxury without being overwhelming or gaudy. Golden leaf-patterned wallpaper plays well against the Light Emperador marble countertops. To the right, the private water closet balances the stone and glass-enclosed shower to the left. The shower’s natural pebble floor offers some reflexology benefit, while a rain shower head cascades a waterfall of relaxation. More hardware, a wall-mounted rain shower and a hand-held massager, combine for a spa-like hydrotherapy session. All mixed together, these bathroom design ideas create the relaxing getaway that Berry had envisioned from the start.
