Comtemporary meets traditional in a back yard makeover

Calming colors in a swimming pool
This swimming pool features a Pebbletech surface in two colors—sand and a blue-green hue.

When contemplating a makeover, Jon and Carolina Strosberg called on Landscape Fusion to help them completely redo their back yard. Jon chose Loomis’ firm on the recommendation of a neighbor in his Hyde Park community. “I liked the fact that Landscape Fusion could do everything we wanted: a pool, landscaping including plants for privacy, carpentry and—most importantly—Mike planned everything simultaneously.”

Travertine pavers form a stylish patio

Although the Strosberg home was built in the early 1900s, Loomis and Carolina together designed a more contemporary and stylish look. For example, Carolina chose a French pattern for the travertine pavers—regular size pavers in a random pattern—that run direct from the house to the pool edge.

Umbrella adds shade to a sun shelf

The roughly 330-square-foot pool, which Loomis describes as streamlined with clean, straight lines, features a Pebbletech sand-colored surface to emphasize the sun shelf with bubbler and umbrella holder.

The pool color then changes to a Chilean Aqua blue-green shade in the 6-foot deep end.

Privacy plants shield a patio and swimming pool

Loomis hid the pool equipment underneath an existing tree house and planted bamboo at the yard edges for privacy.

Jon and Carolina renovated their back yard to make it the perfect entertaining space for their two daughters, 5-year-old Isabella and 8-month-old Julia. “The best part is my wife is satisfied and Isabella has learned to swim. She’s in the pool every day.”
