Thanks to the incredible views offered with the estate-size settings, the focus for this year’s architects and builders is when it comes to windows, bigger is better.
“Larger windows are where everyone is going,” says Nathan Madden, vice president with Pella. “Pair them with walls of glass doors and you go far in blending the indoors with the outdoors.”
One choice Madden doesn’t see going away anytime soon is dark window frames. “Black is still big,” he says. But homeowners, designers and builders who want to embrace dark colors—but not necessarily black— can choose from a slate of hues including Brown, Iron Ore, Hartford Green and Satin Steel. Selections can go far in setting the stylistic tone of the home.
The push for today’s discerning homeowners, Madden says, is to create gathering places–both indoors and out. Windows and glass doors help homeowners create inviting, light-filled spaces, while enhancing curb appeal and protecting the home’s long-term value.
