Fearless wall fashions

Forget the tiny prints. Forget the borders. Forget the fear. Wallpapers are going bigger and braver than ever before.

While some may consider this design element outdated, they might just be thinking of our mother’s—or grandmother’s—underwhelming prints. Today’s wallpaper options embrace bold colors, motifs, and textures. There’s a plethora of patterns from festive florals to sassy stripes, preppy plaids, even meditative murals. It’s a versatile way to add visual interest, make a statement or express a bit of personality.

STRIPES add style, whether they’re thick or thin, straight or wavy. They can be paired with furniture with clean lines to create a modern look. Stripes work well in hallways, bathrooms, or as accent walls in living spaces. For rooms with low ceilings, vertical stripes can create the illusion of height.

MURALS work beautifully when you have a large expansive wall without the interruptions of doors or windows. For a peaceful retreat bring the outdoors in with landscapes, ponds, rivers, or mountains receding in the distance. Include a favorite aspect of your hometown in a city scene to add a bit of urban flair.

BLACK AND WHITES are perfect for creating accent walls with a punch. Their monochromatic palette sets a striking stage for almost any decor style, making them ideal for contemporary, minimalist, even traditional interiors. What they lack in color, black and white patterns more than make up for in boldness.

UNCONVENTIONAL ways of using wallpaper, like on ceilings and panels, is a design that was possibly inspired by European chateaus, but it’s a trend we are seeing more of in the states. By adding punch to the “fifth wall” you can create a captivating focal point. Also, papering inside framed areas, such as wall panels, calls attention to architectural details.

ANIMAL PRINT wallpapers can be wild and fun, or chic and sophisticated. Birds, bees and butterflies can work for any age group, while elephants, giraffes and jellyfish might work best in a kid’s room. Selecting an animal print is a sure way to put your own special stamp on a room to make it a standout space in your home.

BOTANICAL wallpapers including plants, flowers and leaves are a classic and popular option. Designs can range from realistic leaf patterns to abstract floral art. Color palettes can be subtle and elegant to bold and vibrant. With an incredible selection to choose from, patterns cover a wide range from whimsical to elegant.
