Black built-ins offer plenty of trendy storage space

1) Black built-ins

It’s a brave move to go black and it pays off with a sophisticated and glamorous look.  It’s also a great way to create an anchor in the room and draws focus to that area.

Brass dots a sophisticated bedroom

2) Brass

Copper is out and brass is in.  Bright, bold and shiny, this heavy metal is making a comeback.

Cerused wood floor offers a rustic charm

3) Cerused Wood

The idea is to accent the grain of the wood by creating contrast with whitened grain against a darker stain resulting in a texture with rustic elegance. Paired with modern and sleek items, the contrasting styles are a match made in heaven.

Cork wall displays personal keepsakes

4) Cork walls

It’s an accent wall that can also be used to display ever changing personal keepsakes.  Natural/organic (see 10 below) are also trending, and cork fits in perfectly.

5) Geometrics

Angles are still going strong. Symmetrical or asymmetrical you’ll see these funky polyhedrons in everything from light fixtures, furniture, rugs and clocks to textiles, terrariums, and tiles.  Hexagons are especially on trend.

6) Green

Pantone announced its color of the year, Greenery.  Wise choice as we’ve been seeing green popping up everywhere.  Darker shades pair well with brass and also bring the natural palette of the outdoors inside.

7) Marble

This metamorphic rock with interesting “vein” and swirl patterns is an ancient trend that is back in style in a big way.  Its natural look with organic shapes pairs well with other earthy materials trending now.

8) Matte finish

We’re starting to see appliances and fixtures available in a matte finish which contrasts well against shiny and glossy surfaces.

9) Nailhead detail

It’s not just for trim or fastening fabric to furniture. Designers are having fun jazzing up their furniture using nailheads. The design possibilities are endless.

Natural materials thrive in the housing market

10) Natural/organic

Look to nature for materials that will soften interiors and make for casual and confortable atmospheres.

Another color coming on the scene is golden saffron spice. It’s warm and inviting and perfect as an accent or complimentary color.

The home is getting more intelligent with Smarthome features like the Selje nightstand with wireless charging from IKEA.

Solar panels satisfy sustainability request

13) Sustainability

There’s a big push to get off, or at least less reliant, on the grid. Start harnessing energy from the sun with these solar glass tempered roof tiles.

Terracotta tiles span the length of a floor

14) Terracotta

Where terracotta tiles have been used as borders in the past, they will now be seen used to cover the entire floor of a room.  It can also be used on accent walls and fireplaces to give homes a warm, earthy feel.

Terrariums bring nature indoors

15) Terrariums

Nature is coming inside homes and terrariums are a perfect fit with their magical mini landscapes.

Upholstered headboard softens a bedroom

16) Upholstered headboards

The bedroom is place to escape and relax. Snuggling up to a soft headboard is an appealing thought and a lovely look.

Woven basket doubles as a planter

17) Woven baskets

They’re showing up as planters, catch-alls, wall décor and more.  Casual, natural and sustainable, woven baskets come in all shapes and sizes making them versatile and attractive storage pieces.
