Swimming in the shade

A basic back yard is transformed into an awe-inspiring landscape by the sun

This pool house comes with a plethora of amenities, including, but not limited to, a television, a fireplace and a bar.

This swimming pool is surrounded by a pool house complete with bar and television, a fire pit for the chilly nights and plenty of flowers for color.

The pool house structure shades a large dining space, an outdoor bar and an outdoor seating area complete with a large screen television and a fireplace.

An outdoor fire pit extends the season of this pool house into evenings with a bit more chill in the air.

Lighting from within and around the pool glows during the twilight hours, making it usable any time of the day.

A slide cuts through the landscape of this yard and pours riders out into the swimming pool.

Sixty tons of granite boulders made the final cut for the construction of the waterfall in this swimming pool.

The ironwork from the shade structure on the original patio was reused to create a quiet retreat in the back yard. "When I'm planning entertaining spaces, I always try to remember the quiet types that might want to escape the crowd," says landscape architect Gayle Frazer.

Plenty of seating, including a number of outdoor chairs and chaise lounges, plus a sofa and loveseat, provides for plenty of options when entertaining.

The view from this comfortable perch inside of the sunroom design is striking by day or night.
