There used to be a fence that divided their yards, but when Sandy and Bob Csikari had to replace their decaying fence, their neighbor, John Mucka, proposed that rather than splitting their yards, the Csikaris instead extend their fence along the side property line to meet Mucka’s.
Together their combined fencing would effectively keep out marauding deer. Doing so created an opportunity for a new garden bed on the slope where the fence had been.
The end result was an ingenious gardening solution that is lush, colorful and imaginative. The new garden bed enhanced both of their views and created a haven for birds and pollinators. Thanks to Sandy and John’s shared appreciation for plants, their collaboration was successful and complements their individual gardening styles.
John’s gardening premise is that summer should be an explosion of color. He likes surprising color combinations like pink, orange and purple, and brings additional color to his garden both with plants and garden décor such as statuary, gazing balls and benches.
Sandy has a talent for gathering named plant collections and grouping them in an amusing way. Under the shade of mature oaks the garden bed themes are barely perceptible at first; once discovered, however, visitors find themselves entertained by the cheeky fun of it. These homeowners prove that a garden lifestyle is about living life with a connection to the outdoors. It means embracing nature, whether you are a hands-on gardener or simply enjoy spending time outside surrounded by nature.
